Here we have a closer view of the quiet main street; note the sign of the Golden Cocker Café by the street lamp. Petrol pumps and the small village shop stand next to another café advertising cigarettes and the ubiquitous Wall's ice cream. The signpost points to Casterton. Cowan Bridge is a place of pilgrimage for the Bronte Society. After the death of Maria and Elizabeth Bronte from typhus fever, the Rev Patrick Bronte removed his other daughters from Cowan Bridge School.

To the left hand side of the A65 opposite the Village Shop stands the Smithy - this is significant to me as my grandfather Thomas Glover was the village Blacksmith until his retirement. The Smithy was demolished after he retired and my parents later had a bungalow built for themselves behind where it had originally stood.
