Crowland, Abbey Street c.1965

More about this scene
What remains of Crowland Abbey is only a small part of what was there before the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The remains became the small town's parish church. On the right is the way into the car park of Ye Olde Abbey Hostel (that is the name over the entrance), but the official sign has gone. No 27, St Guthlac's Cottage, is stone built and thatched, and No 23 has had new windows inserted. The nearby war memorial remembering the many local men who were killed during the two World Wars needs some attention, as the names are gradually disappearing. The town lost 64 men in the First World War and 17 in the Second.
