More about this scene
Rows of stone cottages surround the Cross in Geddington village centre, built in 1294 to commemorate Queen Eleanor of Castile, wife of Edward I. The memorial is one of 12 original crosses representing resting places on the route of her funeral procession to Westminster Abbey in 1290. Only three remain; the other two are at Hardingstone, near Northampton, and Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire. The cross contains small statues of the Queen.
