I was born in 1943 in Mancot and lived in Shotton. After the eleven plus I arrived at Hawarden Grammar school. The first two years were easy enough but in Form3, I noticed all the boys studied Science and all the girls had to take Arts subjects. No. not for me! Granville Roberts was born approximately 1903 in Hawarden, Flintshire, North Wales. He was an adopted son of Moses and Miriam Roberts. Anyone who can tell me more about Granville please email to pdw543@versatel.nl
Arthur William Matthews born 1880, Sedgley, Staffordshire and Emma Jane Marks born In Tipton, Staffordshire married at Saint Deiniols on 16th January 1905. He worked as a furnace man at Shotton iron works. When war broke out Arthur joined the Royal Welch Fusiliers to fight for freedom. He gave his life in Gallipoli on 11 August 1915 leaving his wife and two children.

I'm trying to find any information regarding my great grandfather, Cornelius Lewis. He was originally from West Felton, Shropshire, but I believe he was living in Hawarden around this time and up until his death sometime in the 50's. Our family lost touch with him and I would love to find out more about him or any relatives we may have in that area.
Hello, I am trying to trace my grandfather who is called Joseph F Hulley born 1930 in Hawarden. His mother was noted as main name of Hulley on his birth cert so it may have been an iligitimate birth, which I believe was quite common in those days! My dad has never met his dad and is keen to do so before its too late, but I am completely stuck at where to look now can anyone help me with info of Hulleys in the ...see more
I was about 14 when I moved to Buckley from Wallasey and went to Hawarden Grammar School. I have good memories of the time there and would like to contact some of my old (now really old) friends from those days. I am now 84. I left Hawarden to work at Llay Hall coal mine in 1944 and then returned to the school in 1948 for about three months before leaving for Aberystwyth. Bob Dean email bdean@look.ca
I see it stated that Ewloe Castle was built by Llewellyn in 1257. But there was evidently some fortification there earlier. In 1256 Prince Edward (Edward I) and his followers were besieged there by Llewellyn and rescued by Simon de Montfort who brought an army of mercenaries from France to their aid. Hello I'm hoping someone may be able to help me. I'm trying to find anything to do with my grandparents /fathers life, especially old photos of the area they lived and worked.
