More about this scene

The Long Hoe, or Lytham Green, has been preserved over the years, and is one of the great amenities of the town. This view shows horses at a special bar, useful when so many townspeople got about on horseback. A celebrated inhabitant at that time was Dr C H Poole, born in 1850. He was a Latin and Greek scholar who knew Cardinal Newman and the Duke of Norfolk. Squire Clifton prevailed on Dr Poole to be tutor for H De Vere Clifton, his son.

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I am currently researching my family history, and my grandparents lived at Kirkham Caravan Park around 1952/53. They lived in a small caravan and had their first child, (my mum) at Lytham St Annes Hospital. I have photos of the caravan they lived in, but I am struggling to find any information on any caravan parks in the area. I have found a map which lists a caravan park next to Ribby Hall Leisure Village, ...see more

The journey from Walsall took forever, I was 7 years old and very home sick all the time. I used to look at the Tower from the toilet window and cry silently for my mom each night. The smell of beeswax furniture polish brings back memories of the hall ...see more
Me and my brother went to this home around 1954. I would be 7 and he would be 9; we went on the train from Rochdale. I remember mother giving my older brother 2 half crowns - 5 bob for sweets to last a fortnight. I also remember watching someone peeling tats by putting them in a big drum with sharp edges and turning it like a mangle. Unfortunately, I also remember climbing the steps on the slide in the play area and falling ...see more
We lived in Preston, Lancashire from 1944 to 1956 and often came here for the day on the bus. My mother preferred Lytham to Blackpool and we spent happy hours on the sands. This picture, taken before the 1st World War, is a view which my father would have seen when he came here as a child - I have a couple of photos of him on the sands with his mother and sister. I can't remember a pier - ...see more
