More about this scene
To the north of Pitminster is Poundisford Park, once a hunting ground for the Bishops of Winchester. The park pale (enclosure) can still be seen by following the footpaths out of the village. Sad to say, the old hunting ground has been unsympathetically bisected by the motorway, though a footbridge carries the walker across its intrusive carriageways. The artist Gainsborough was a regular visitor to the parish.
