Treco Bay

A Memory of Porthcawl.

We stayed in a small caravan the first holiday we had in Porthcawl during the miners fortnight holiday in June many years ago. Other wise it would be day or afternoon trips to Porthcawl and other seaside resorts along the South Wales coast . Playing on the beach at Porthcawl but to go there we had to put nice clothes on on our mothers orders as we had to look proper to go out even when it was warm or very warm and we had to get 4 deck chairs to sit on on the beach and me and my brother went paddling in the sea or if he had bathing trunks on we would go in the sea.
Some times we would walk over the rocks by treco bay and perhaps catch some crabs with were in some of the pools of water among the rocks when the tide went out.
Then to Coney Beach Fun fair to have rides on the various amusement rides in the fair and have goes on the Kentucky Derby amusement and at the coco nut shy hoping to win a coco nut. Must not forget the Figure Eight ride too which we went on it went so fast it was similar to a roller coaster at some fairs.
Then a bite to eat usually some sandwiches and a thermostat full of hot tea to drink on the beach while sitting on the deck chairs which on times were very difficult to put up as I know from experience in years gone by We usually got some sun burn on our necks etc which we put calamine lotion on to ease the sun burn. Then towards late evening back to home or the caravan if we wren on holiday for two weeks.
