More about this scene

Here we see more late Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas, mostly built of brick or roughcast. The road curves towards the town centre, passing the end of De Vere Road. The shop in the distance is now a bigger 'One-Stop Shop'. At the far end are the two gabled bays of the Old Rectory.

My Farther owned Tomlinson's store and I grew up working there with my sister all through the war.

Rector Of Thrapston
My grandfather William Howard Tomkins-Russell was the Rector of Thrapston, and died of pneumonia in The Rectory in 1941. My uncle Anthony was born there in Feb 1931. My father Hugh grew up there, along with his elder brother John and elder sisters Margaret and Helen. Naturally, the family left The Rectory after the death of my grandfather.

Charles St Shop
My aunt and uncle Ho adopted me in 1963, used to run the shop on Charles St for John Petch. If anyone can remember me or has any photos of Thrapston in the sixties I would love to hear from you. dennis.taylor 54@yahoo.com

Lords Saddle And Harness Makers.
I recently come across small metal badge thing as as metal detector find. It looks like gun metal, with a coating of brass or gold laquer. It has inscribed on it/ LORD maker Thrapston. It is a very interesting piece from the past. If anyone living there has any information on this I would be most grateful. Many thanks. I hope this is of interest to someone.

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
