Alderley Edge, View From Castle Rock c.1955

More about this scene
This photograph is looking north over the Hough where Manchester`s murk still obscures the horizon. Before clean air acts and the decline of the cotton industry, the only time people could see the Lancashire hills across the Mersey Basin was during Wakes week. Now the view is clearer, and any fine day will give a view across to Winter Hill and the Pennines.
