Here we have a fine overview of the town centre against a backdrop of the Fairfield Horseshoe group of mountains. A large signboard announces the Queen's Hotel, which is dominant in the Market Square (centre), whilst Hird and Sons, jewellers, occupy part of the ground floor of the same building. The solidly constructed tower to the right is part of the Market Hall of 1863. To the left of the Market Hall is the back of the former Court House.

Eskdale Cumbria And Another Hectic Break
My son Matthew provided the opportunity to once again retrace our well worn steps around this beautiful county and in particular The Lake District. As is our norm it was non-stop driving and walking, although walking is now less attractive to me as old father time lessens my ability to trek as I once did. Mairin Mitchell

Hi there. My name is Amaia López de Munain. I'm a spanish journalist based in Glasgow. I'm researching about Mairin (also known as Marion) Mitchell, she was born in 1895 in Ambleside. She was the daughter of Dr. Thomas Houghton Mitchell born in Limerick and Gertrude Emily Pease (Gertrude Mitchell). Merewood Cottage And Bank House
I have just been going through some old photos of my dads. He grew up in Ambleside in the 1930’s and 1940’s. His dad was the local bank manager I believe. He lived in a house called Merewood Cottage. I was wondering if anyone knew where this is. He also mentions a house called Bank House. Any information anyone could share would be very welcome.

Memories Of Ambleside And The Lakes
We as a family first stayed at Rothay Manor in Ambleside in 1953 and it was then that I had my first experiences in fell walking, trout fishing and negotiating the nearby "Stepping Stones" across the river Rothay. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
