More about this scene
This is a classic view of Tarn Hows, near Hawkshead, with the peaks of the Langdale Pikes in the centre background. Despite its natural appearance, the lakes of Tarn Hows are in fact artificial, and there were once several smaller tarns. About 80 years ago, the landowner dammed the beck to create this familiar scene—one of the most visited places in the Lake District.
