Barnet, Barnet Hill c.1900

More about this scene
We are looking north on the approach from High Barnet Underground Station. The church of St John the Baptist dominates this readily-recognisable street scene on the crown of the hill. Early fabric in the double north aisle dates from the 15th century, but the remainder of the building was designed by William Butterfield 1875. The interior is of some interest; the Ravenscroft Chapel in the south aisle houses a fine alabaster figure of Thomas Ravenscroft, a local benefactor, dated 1630.
