More about this scene
This peaceful view shows the Lancaster Canal as it passes through Bolton-le-Sands. The canal arrived here in 1797, and transformed the village into a town. Between 1820 and 1849, passenger boats on the canal were the main form of transport between Kendal and Preston, and the Packet Boat Hotel, seen here, was one of the inns built for passengers so that they could eat on their journey or wait for the next boat.
