More about this scene
We are travelling out of the city towards Manningham Park and on to Shipley and Bingley. This used to be a centre for entertainment, with the old Theatre Royal (1868) on the left - it was later a cinema from 1921. It was on the stage of the Theatre Royal that Sir Henry Irving fell ill; he died that night at the Midland Hotel. The white building opposite is the Regent Cinema, which opened in September 1914. It was called the Essoldo from 1950, and it closed with 'Duel at Rio Bravo' in October 1965. The Yorkshire Penny Bank can be seen at the junction.
