More about this scene

The Norman church of St Nicholas is perched on a small hill near the castle ruins. There was a railway station nearby, but the line is now closed. Lavender Cottage dates back to the 15th century. In those days the sea came much closer, and it used to be a fisherman's home. It is reputed to have a tunnel between the grounds and a nearby castle; it was used by an amorous couple to visit each other.
