More about this scene
Picket fencing encloses the gardens of these two cottages. The nearest cottage has pebble-dash rendering on the walls and a long-straw thatched roof with a traditional swept ridge. The plain red brick chimney stack perhaps dates the cottage to the late 17th century - the leaded light windows in wooden frames and the shuttered small bay window are certainly very old.
