More about this scene
Caister, just north of Great Yarmouth, has a strong tradition for both fishing and its lifeboat. In 1901, the lifeboat was launched into a storm, and nine out of the twelve crew lost their lives. At the inquiry afterwards, the survivors were asked why they had carried on when conditions made a rescue impossible. Their answer, 'Caister men never turn back', has been the motto of Caister seafarers ever since.
