Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. More about this scene

In the 18th and 19th centuries, Cark was a busy mill town. The bridge here spans the River Eea, which powered the mill close by. In the 1780s the roads through Cark were minor tracks, and stepping stones were used to cross the beck. There are a number of bridges serving mill-workers' houses. Coaches crossing the Leven Sands used the roads around Cark, including the lane to Sand Gate.

Grandma's Cottage And Carrie's Bridge
My maternal grandfather's family came from Cark in Cartmel. The cottage nearest to the bridge was/is called "Beckside". Our family know it better as "Grandma's" house. I've found that she lived there from around the time she married, which would have been in the 1850s. She and her husband, Thomas Hadwin, had 12 children. My Grandad
My grandad was born here in 1923, his name was Clive John Lupton, also known as Cliff. He left when he was 17 and settled in Liverpool, but didn't speak much about the place. We returned with him in 2001 but he didn't really open up about anything, we think he had a conflict with his parents who were Gwladys Maude Faraday (maiden name) and John Lupton. First Kiss
My wife used to live in the house on the right, Number 5 Mill Close. When we were courting I would walk her home from our nights out and we use to sit on the bridge wall. This is where I had my first kiss from her, she was 17 and I was 19 years old. We have been married now for 46 years and have two children and 4 grandchildren. This is where it all started.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
