Cartmel, The Cross And Market Place 1894

More about this scene
This most attractive of towns is sets amongst woods and gentle rolling hills. Cartmel has been described as a cathedral city in miniature, and this corner of the cobbled Market Place has not changed much since this photograph was taken. The ancient Market Cross and village pump are watched over by the Cavendish Arms (left). Note Mr Overend's tiny one-up-one-down draper's shop to the right.
