More about this scene
This is the shopping parade, with shops to meet the everyday needs of the local inhabitants. As in Eastleigh, the ground floors of houses have been converted. An unseen advantage is that they all have cellars, as the ground slopes away behind. The hexagonal building at the bottom was a provision store plus post office, then a gas company showroom for a short time, and finally Martin's Central Heating, before it was demolished for road widening.
