Gear's Garage, above the Queen's Armes Hotel, was the major motor engineers for this section of what became the strategic A35 Folkestone to Honiton trunk road. The proprietor was W A Gear (telephone Charmouth 8). Signs offer 'Cars for Hire, Repairs, Accessories'. Mr Gear was a main agent for both Austin and Morris cars.
