Hunloke Arms Chesterfield

A Memory of Chesterfield.

My grandparents were publicans and ran the Hunloke Arms pub on Derby Road for many years during the 60s and 70s.
I was born at Ashgate nursing home and lived in the Chesterfield area until the late 70s when I spread my wings, went to art school and travelled to many parts of the world.
I remember many shopping trips with my grandmother into Town.
I remember Swallows store, another small department store and the Coop dept store.
My mother preferred to shop for her clothes at a boutique called ' Jean vardy'.
We would often stop for lunch too, very frequently buying fish and chips from Bodens to take back to the pub for ourselves and my grandfather.
Growing up in the 70 s was limited as not too much to do in a small town for teenagers.
My friends and I frequented the Aquarius night club on Whittington moor and most of all the Adam and Eve nightspot. This was on top of a Chinese resteraunt off that main roundabout coming into Chesterfield off the Derby road.
Many good times and fond memories.
