More about this scene

Nothing is quite what it seems here. Despite its spelling, the name is pronounced 'Chumley'. Despite its looks, the castle actually only dates from 1801, when the main house was built; the turrets and towers were then added even later in 1817. The architect who did this later work, Robert Smirke, is also known for another 'fake' castle he designed at Eastnor in Herefordshire.

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I remember the Lodge well - my Grandparents lived there. I was born in 1944 and stayed in Cholmondeley and went to school there when my Mother died. Loved Beeston Lodge and the animals my Grandfather kept. His name was Howard Vincent. I also had other family members living in Cholmondeley - Tom Vincent and Howard Vincent and my Aunt lived in Broxton Millie Hopley. Does anyone remember those days
