Cockfosters, The Underground Station, Cockfosters Road c.1965

More about this scene
Simply elegant, this is the last of a superb series of 1930s underground stations extending along the northern section of the Piccadilly Line, including Arnos Grove, Southgate and Oakwood, all designed by the master of proportion and style, Charles Holden. The long, low concrete-canopied entrance drops to an airy clerestoried train shed, which, in turn, compliments that at Uxbridge, the western terminus on the line, designed by the same architect. Try to ignore the curving backdrop building.
