More about this scene
The village takes its name from the area's most famous son, Sir Walter Raleigh, who was born at the beautiful Tudor farmhouse of Hayes Barton a couple of miles to the south. The 15th-century tower is all that remains of the original structure of the church of St John the Baptist - the rest was rebuilt in 1875.
