I lived in Saxbys Garden Cottage in 1963 and worked in what was then called Gordon House - a Care Home. My friend Jo and I were there for 6 months only. It was while I was working there that I found out Gordon House was once called Gainsford House and when I last drove to the village I saw it is once again holding its rightful name. I remember once at school bird watching out the window in a small darken room. I also remember playing on the swings with andrews girls from up the road opposite the pub im sure it was in the 1970s but have no photos as my parents did not take photos.

We (Nelson family) spent our summer in the 50s in a caravan on a site within walking distance to the beach and water. I have fond memories of that beach and ocean including shrimping with our big nets we pushed along the edge of the water. We brought up the buckets of shrimp to be boiled and eaten... Generations of my family lived in Cowden, going right back to 1700s. My parents were married in the church, which lies behind the wall you can just see at the front of this photo. I was also baptised here in 1958. The main significance of this photo for me, are the two houses connected to the Old Smithy (facing left towards the church).
