The bowling green, which we see here in the foreground, still survives. But foreign sports are taking over: just beyond the hedge today a strip of land has been prepared with sand so that people can play boules. When considering sporting interests in the town, it is interesting to note that Crewe's football club, Crewe Alexandra, is the oldest club in the Football League, having been founded in 1876.
