Walsh Manor School
A Memory of Crowborough.
I was a teacher at Walsh Manor Home Office School in the early days of the school. Mr Laycock was Headmaster, Mr West was the deputy and Mr Arrow was the other teacher. The Housemaster was Mr Stewart. Lord Longford was one of the school governors. The first boys to arrive came from the London area, although I remember Derek Cooper who I believe came from the Brighton area. Various activities were undertaken with the boys as mentioned by Frank Lacey in his memory posted in 2008. Other boys I remember were David Prior, Paul Kent and Ronnie Gibson. Ronnie's hero was Chelsea goalkeeper in those days Peter Bonetti.
Mr West and I were good friends but unfortunately I lost touch with him after I left the school to take up an appointment as Headmaster of a village school in Lincolnshire. I have been retired some 23 years and am still an actuive 81 year old!
I was so pleaed to read Frank' memory and hope that I shall hear from him and any other boys who were at the school with him.
I understand that the Home Office closed the school around 1980 and it now belongs to the Scientology Church.
