More about this scene
Featured here is the fish pond and castellated boathouse that once belonged to William Backhouse; they were retained when North Lodge Park was developed. Keeping the pond topped up was never a problem - it was fed with surplus water from the swimming baths in Gladstone Street. The pond was filled in in 1932, and the boathouse was demolished in the early 1950s.
