More about this scene
The tour starts with this excellent cameo shot which shows the heart and essence of Daventry, the Moot Hall, centre of local government during the 20th century, and the Burton Memorial, erected in 1907, celebrating the life of Edmund Charles Burton. He was a stalwart of 19th-century local government, being the third successive member of his family to be Town Clerk. A huntsman and churchman, according to the inscription he was 'Sans peur, sans reproche'. It was while the Burton family were in office that the old Moot Hall on the site of this memorial was demolished and the Town Council moved into the present Moot Hall.
