For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

I was born in Denbigh in 1939 in a house named Parc y Twll near the entrance to the Denbigh Hospital. We moved next door to St Davids which is at the entrance. My father worked at the Hospital and I spent my childhood roaming the grounds and the wonderful farm the hospital owned and ran nearby. There was once a barn fire at the farm and I was given the job of holding a hose - duly photographed by Ronald Thompson. Tommy ...see more
I too went to Fron Goch and was taught by Miss Annie several years before you.. She was very memorable. My last name was Whitley and we lived in Bodfari at that time. We got the train to school.
My mother was born in Denbigh Infirmary in 1947. Her father was Kenneth TONG & her mother was called Ceridwen (known as Ceri). She had 4 sisters & 2 brothers. In the 1940s my grandparents were living at The Green in Denbigh. Does anybody know this area?? Also Ceri's mother Margaret lived in Ivy House in Henllan St in late 1950s, and her son William (Bill) lived in Henllan St.
I used to come on holiday annually to stay with my Nain and Taid in Ruthin, I have fond memories of the staff and family from the "Townsend "Stores; as the train left Denbigh station on the way to Ruthin all the family would be outside to gives us a wave, it was always a highlight of a long journey. I too was born at Denbigh Hospital (1958) and we lived in Trewen which at the time hadn't been extended to Erw Salsbury. I used to walk to school with Mum down Ruthin Road to Fron Goch and we'd call at a sweet shop on the way back on a busy corner. Dad worked at Edward Thomas & Co which was an agricultural machinery depot. My sister went to the Convent. We moved away in 1965 but some aspects of Denbigh are very vivid for ...see more

They married Boxing Day 1942. My GGF was Daniel who came from Glasgow. He worked at Coppy Farm, Henllan Road. Daniel married twice, his second wife was the cook at the Hawk & Buckle and he helped serve beer to those who bet on the cock fights. The cock pit is now at the Folk Museum in Cardiff.

I was born at the Denbighshire Infirmary and grew up in Denbigh - it's a lovely town and the surrounding area is beautiful. Both my parents, and my aunt and uncle, worked at the North Wales Hospital, as did so many people from the town. I return there as often as I can, and find it a relaxing place to be. We have kept my parents' home and it's such a pleasure to be there. Thanks for some great photos from the '50s and '60s - happy memories!
