Devizes, On The Canal 1898

More about this scene
Devizes is perched on the top of a hill overlooking the Avon valley. From there, the Kennet & Avon Canal plunges down the extraordinary flight of 29 locks at Caen Hill to the valley below. The pattern created by the extending balance beams has been compared to the backbone of a huge reptile. This lock is on the edge of town, close to the old prison.
