More about this scene
Of all High Street's timber-framed houses this one is the grandest. It was built in 1599 for Edward Payne, an ironworker, though by 1923 its resident was Robin Reid. It suffered a disastrous fire in December 1928 but was skilfully rebuilt the following year.
