East Ham Boxing

A Memory of East Ham.

My Father Jack Fitch was born 1939 Manor Park. He trained at East Ham boxing club and went on to become ABA Heavyweight champion twice in the early sixties.
He also worked at the Royal Albert Docks ,I remember him taking me one day and being on the Quay side as the cranes were unloading the ships, dangerous for a kid of about 8 but those were different times.
Would be great to speak to anyone with photos of East Ham Boxing club Royal Albert Docks.

Hello, Your father's name seems very familiar to me.
Did he ever work in Stratford as door security in the 80's? I think it was the two puddings
I remember him quite well.
Had to reply. My brother same age, went to East Ham Boxing Club, John Duncombe and the trainer was a mounted policeman at East Ham, he was very good with the lads. Also my husband Joe worked down the docks in 60s, he used to at that time (what was called) bomp on as hadn't done an apprentice for the docks but was the son of a Docker and so was able to go in to the Docks at the age of 21
