I was born in 1944 and lived in Cranmer Road until 1958. Our neighbours on one side were Mr & Mrs Norwood, who always sent round a portion of home-made spotted dick for me on a Friday evening when rationing was still in force, and I devoured it with great relish! I was baptised in this church in 1953. Born in April 1949 at 91, The Chase, Burnt Oak, my christening was postponed due to the death of my grandfather, Alexander Sturges in November of that year. He is buried in the churchyard. This was known as Handel's church in our family. Apparently the Earl of Chandos was his patron and it stands near Chandos Park.
I was married at this church in July 1955; it is so so beautiful inside. I remember when I was still in school they found old paintings underneath the wall coverings and they are magnificent..
This was the church I attended with my family as a child from 1950-1966 when I moved away to college. My father is buried at the end of the path up to the entry to the church. The rector for some time was Rev. Cottrell with three children who were about the age of my twin and me. The boys were called Richard and David.
