More about this scene
Eyam made a great sacrifice during the Great Plague of 1665-66. When the plague reached Eyam in a consignment of cloth from London, the villagers, encouraged by their vicar William Mompesson, decided to isolate themselves from the outside world in an attempt to contain the outbreak. In all, 257 villagers died.
