More about this scene

In the centre of the village, on Affleck Bridge, is the Independent Wesleyan Chapel built in 1874 to serve the Nonconformist industrial workers of the boot and shoe factories. Beyond it, the shop has since been demolished and replaced by a 1970s flat-roofed health centre. 1950s council houses in Dolben Square are visible on the left.

Do you remember seeing a field of giant mangel wurzels in Finedon? When I was still a lad, Finedon farmers were still following a fifteenth century practice of growing the huge white and yellow beetroots for cattle food. On My Finedon website I received this e mail. As an expatriot I thought you would like a message. I was born in Finedon in 1912, and left for Canada in 1928. I lived in Placketts Yard and Ivy Lane. Attended the infants school at Lime Tree end, and then the boys school on Church Hill, and graduated to Mulso School on Wellingboro Road with Capt J. F. Sutton as Headmaster. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
