More about this scene
Frodsham was once an important town for stagecoaches, with a number of coaching inns such as the Bear's Paw (the stone gabled building on the left of the picture). This particular inn is said to have been so called because bear baiting used to take place nearby, although the sign was also that of the crest of the Savage family, who were lords of the manor of Frodsham.
