Milling Street

A Memory of Gateshead.

I was born at 50 Milling Street in 1955. I had my Auntie and Uncle living a few doors down. I was one of 6 kids so there were 8 of us crammed into our upstairs flat. The toilet was outside and downstairs in the backyard, while the tin bath hung on the wall outside!! How life has changed for young families today in 2017. Life was very tough back then but it made us stronger and so grateful for the good life we have today. Remembering the past to appreciate the present 😊 My name back then was Sylvia Bambrough 😉Op

My grandfather Sidney Denenberg lived with his family in 32 Milling Street from around 1911. Grandfather moved to Norway around 1915 and died here. His wife and children stayed in England. Grandfather’s wife Fanny and one daughter, Minnie, lived in Milling Street for many years. They died in 1970 and 1971 and are buried in Newcastle.

Is there someone who remember the Denenberg’s? And does someone has some pictures from the street? Would be nice to see :)
