Redheugh Conundrum

A Memory of Gateshead.

Hello. Newbie here.
Found site during an attempt to clear up some confusion on a Teams, Gateshead FB page.
Is anyone out there an old pupil of Redheugh School, in Prest Street, during 50s and 60s? If so, you might be able to help.
Was it the case that R took in mixed infants at 5 and then, at some point, kids moved up into the junior school, which was separate girls and boys; and at the same age took in from other local infant schools, so still keeping I class of c 30 girls, another of boys, each year?
Hope I've explained this sufficiently.

Permissable to post here a link to a new group, including both sexes at Redheugh? Thanks, if you find it appropriate!

I started at Prest Street school in 1956, after one year I moved to Rose Street school where I stayed for 2 years and then it was back to Prest street.
Never did understand why.
I started Prest Street School (Redheugh was its real name) in 1958. Gateshead Council made the decision then to separate the boys from the girls all over the borough I think. I had been to Victoria Road before that until I was 10 which was mixed. I then went to Rose Street in 1959 which was boys only again but girls had their own part. I went to Leam Lane in 1961 which was Durham County and was mixed again!
