More about this scene
The university was founded in 1450, moving to the Gilmorehill site in 1870. Designed by Sir Gilbert Scott, the university building is dominated by its 200ft tower topped off with a 100ft spire. In the 16th century, one of Glasgow University's leading academics was Andrew Melville. Melville had studied in France and taught at Calvin's academy in Geneva. It was he who brought Scotland's university teaching methods into line with Geneva, forming the basis of Scottish academic life for over three centuries.
