More about this scene
This chapter finishes with a flourish in Glastonbury, one of England's most historic smaller towns, a major centre of pilgrimage in the middle ages and still regarded by many as of mythic importance. The 'discovery' of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere's graves in the 12th century, and the legend of Joseph of Arimathea, Christ's uncle, founding the first Christian church in England were powerful draws, and the abbey was one of England's wealthiest. Here we look west from the Edgar Chapel to the crossing and nave beyond.
