Grange Over Sands, The Promenade 1918

More about this scene
The bandstand formerly stood on the promenade, but the ladies complained about its windswept position, which led to their having a dishevelled appearance. Also, they objected to being covered in smuts from the railway, which ran immediately behind it. The new site of the bandstand still remains close to Clare House Bridge (see 82781). This picture was taken from the bridge steps.
