Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

The Saracen's Head—on the right of this picture—was a famous coaching inn at Great Dunmow, a town associated since 1949 with the Dunmow Flitch ceremony.This had originated at Little Dunmow in 1140 and fallen into neglect in 1751. Every four years a side of bacon (a flitch) is presented to a married couple who can prove that they have not regretted their marriage a year and a day after the ceremony.

Hoy Family
My gt,gt grandfather Abijah Hoy was born in Great Dunmow in 1813 and was a farm worker all his working life. He died at an address in the High St in 1881 and on his death certificate his occupation was a "Cow Man". Most of the Hoy family lived in a row of very early 19thC cottages at Church End, just by the bridge over the River Chelmer. These basic 2up 2down cottages are now Grade 2 listed. My 3rd Great Grandfather
My 3rd great grandfather's name was Robert Monk,he was born in 1810 in Dunmow Essex..he had a son Thomas Monk (my 2nd great grandfather) who later married Eliza Morch and moved to Hackney.....

Doctor's Pond, Great Dunmow
My family moved to Great Dunnmow 1959/1960 from West Yorkshire. We lived on the High Street in a large red brick house that used to be, then a hotel. We lived downstairs (then called Janet Taylor) and my cousins lived upstairs (Simpson). We went to the local primary school, which was a few minutes from Doctor's Pond. Frecknalls
My mother lived in Dunmow from 1932 until 1946 when she left to live in Edinburgh. My mother's name was Rosalind Frecknall and she and her family lived at The Close initially, then The Downs. Her father, Claud Frecknall, taught woodwork at the local school and was an air raid warden during the war. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
