Compare this scene with G66053, five years after it but almost identical. By now the impact of the alterations to the Market Place and Church Street of 1962/63 are clear. The Fine Fare Supermarket (extreme left of the picture) has now replaced the Co-op Snack Bar, and although Leemings the chemist (next door) remains, Pallister's cake shop beyond has now become Shipmans, which it remained until the 1990s. On the right, next to the archway is Gray's cycle and pram shop, and beyond that the Chocolate Box and Hintons, the forerunner of the present day Safeway/Morrisons store.

Dads Shop
This was my Dad's shop where he started his butchering business in the 1930's till, he closed in 1973. Both my brother Tom and I worked there. Tom from 1955 till it closed and I began in 1962 and left in 1966, for Australia. In those days we had our own slaughterhouse. as most other butchers in Guisborough did. Mam
I am sure my mother worked as a kitchen maid at Guisborough Hall in 1952 when it was possibly a nursing home, Cant find anything about the history in that era. My mothers name at that time was Gorgina Mary Mc Cormick. I always remember a photo she had of herself in her uniform outside the hall. Gisborough Hall Nursing Home
This photo rings back memories of delivering meat to nursing home on a bi weekly basis, In the 1960’s this hall was used as a nursing home and my dad supplied the meat. My memories were of the heat from the kitchen, the smell of nursing home patients and the trophies shot by previous Lord Gisborough’s on their safari’s throughout the Empire. I bet that they still hang on the walls,somewhere

Fox Inn
We used to eat at the Fox Inn on a regular basis in the 1960's. Mrs Armstrong, the owner and chef, made the best ox tail I've ever eaten . You couldn't beat Yorkshire food at it's best Great food and beer. Norman Robinson owned the newsagents next door, where I'd buy my papers

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
