More about this scene

In this village churchyard there is a 19th-century memorial to thirty hop pickers who drowned when their cart slipped over a crumbling bridge and dragged them into the depths of the River Medway. In 1859 Walter Barton May built a 170ft-tall tower at Hadlow Castle, and in 1951 it became protected by a special preservation order. The tower is very prominent in the mid-Kent landscape.

J & G Day 1930s
Hi, I would love to hear any memories of J and G Day. I have a photo of my late grandfather, Benjamin Stevenson, alongside a sack of produce. He sadly died whilst working out in the fields and I would love to know more.

Orphanage
My grandfather George Edward Knight was born in 1932, he was put in an orphanage somewhere in or around Hadlow, he also went to a school for boys, at age 13 he had an apprentership with a J Wood as a painter. After this he went to war. Any infomation would be great as he has dementia and the memories are getting worse. His nickname was (Ian).

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
