Bordeston School 1950/60

A Memory of Hanwell.

Poor standard of education. Teachers going through the motions. No interest or comittment. These are the memories I have. Many old pupils recall the crushing corporal punishment. Cane administered on the hands, chalk thrown at you. One teacher actually chalked the cane so it would leave a mark on your trousers so he could cause maximum pain by hitting you in the same place. Ears pulled etc.

I remember the sadistic teacher Adams one day he hit me around the head and I saw stars. He slippered Monty Barnes one day and hit him so hard that he shot out of the door of the classroom he hit the door and pushed the two-way hinges in different directions they had to call the caretaker to fix it. I then moved on at 13 to Acton Tech and sometimes saw him at Ealing Broadway underground station in the morning on his way in I felt like pushing him in front of a train. You are correct many of the teachers there were like prison officers.
Adams was deadly.
Incredible feelings after all these years. What we went through!!!!!@@
I went there from 1963 till 1967, then moved to Reading. Pink Floyd's 'Another brick in the wall' sums Bordeston up nicely for me! I remember one teacher called Griffiths who made Mick Nottage (bad sort!) wear gloves in his class to stop him biting his nails. O'brien was a sadist, caned people for nothing! The 'scud' was another punishment, a leather strap used on outstretched hands - very painful! I knocked about with John Turner, Alan Clack and Carl Wiltshire amongst others and lived on Station Road. Anyone remember back then?
By the way, aks. 21 is Alexander Kerr. I also played football in the playground with Colin Brown and Brian 'dubs' Durban.
Does anyone remember Terry White, around 1960. He went to University and became a teacher.
