The Augustinian Priory of St Mary and St Thomas the Martyr was founded c1200 by Robert fitz Richard (d1213). The three medieval churches of St Mary's, St Thomas à Becket and St Martin's were all gifted to the Priory by Robert and must have been a significant source of income. The Priory was closed in 1536 at the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Note the lady on the right of the picture carrying the earthenware jug, and the railway bridge across the western Cleddau.

Best Friend

My best friend Glenda Prior lived in the Gloster Arms with her mum and dad, this would have been in the 1970s. I have so many happy memories of our time together, practicing the "Greaser " dance in the snug ! So sad to hear that it has closed .Memories live on when the building is closed.

Llangwm, Haverfordwest

I have memories of my father writing to his aunt and uncle in Haverfordwest. They lived at Ferry Hill House, Llangwm Ferry. It sounded a lovely place but I never went there. I'd like to see a picture of it or hear from anyone who knew them. Their surname was Heap. Pentelow was another family name.

The Gloster Arms

I was largely brought up in Mariner's Square. Directly opposite the Mariner's Hotel (the building with the portico) was a pub called the Gloster Arms. At the time this picture was taken it was run by my great grandmother and later by her daughter, my grandmother. My father and his brother lived there until they both married in the 1950's.
