More about this scene
The war memorial pictured here, crowned with a symbolic Welsh dragon, was moved from this position in 1973. The building to the left has been removed and this is where the memorial can be found. The inscription reads: '1914-1918. In remembrance of the men of the county of Pembroke, who at the call of King and country left all that was dear to them, endured hardness, faced dangers and finally passed out of the sight of men by the path of duty and self-sacrifice, giving up their own lives that others might live in freedom. Let those who come after see to it that their names be not forgotten.' Note that the hotel to the right, once the Salutation Hotel, is now the County Hotel.
