More about this scene
The tower was capped by a timber spire until 1802, when it was removed at the behest of Lady Kensington who feared that it would fall on her nearby house. The issue of how, when and in what way the tower should be reinstated to its former glory is not resolved to this day. The clock faces on the tower were installed in 1885 at the expense of the Perrot Charity.
